NYC Man Arrested For Beating Toddler Daughter To Death Just Before Her Birthday
A Brooklyn father was arrested for beating his little girl to death just ahead of her second birthday, officials said.
Aniyah Wyatt-Wright reportedly suffered a fatal assault at the hands of her father, Robert Wright, 33, at their house in Brownsville building on Osborn St near Hegeman Avenue on Oct. 4, two days before her birthday. The man was taken into custody after admitting to detectives that he punched his daughter in the back of the head, NBC New York reported.
Wright was slapped with a slew of charges including manslaughter, assault, and criminally negligent homicide, according to the outlet.
Police said Wyatt-Wright went into seizures after being hit in the back of her head and was taken to Brookdale Hospital. She was found to have bleeding on her brain and suffered a cardiac arrest due to the assault.
The child was transported to Cohen Children's Medical Canter the next day, Oct. 5, and died there, The New York Times reported.
The city's medical examiner determined that Wyatt-Wright sustained blunt force trauma to both the front and rear of her brain and also had substantial bruising all over her body. Her death was ruled a homicide.
It, however, wasn't clear if Wright was earlier questioned by authorities in another case involving the welfare of a child. A spokeswoman for the city's Administration for Children's Services said the agency was investigating the case and took measures to ensure the safety of Wyatt-Wright's siblings.
A woman living in the same building as Wright said she never saw him hit the child and recalled him walking his children to the park. "The family was very nice to me and my kids. They always said hi," the woman, who wished not to be identified, told New York Daily News. "I never saw anything wrong with them. The father never came off as violent. I never even heard a domestic dispute between them."
According to the report, Wright was held on a $1 million bond or $100,000 cash following an arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court.
