Obama On Trump: Former President Furious At Donald Trump’s Wiretapping Accusations Despite Maintaining Low Profile, Report Says

President Donald Trump’s allegations that former President Barack Obama wiretapped the Trump Tower before the 2016 presidential election have not gone down well with the latter, even as Obama refused to respond to Trump’s accusatory tweets.

The former president has stayed out of the limelight following Trump’s inauguration and decided against replying to the president’s Twitter rampage, an Obama aide told the Wall Street Journal. Obama, who had previously offered to advise the president on issues of governance, was furious at the serious allegations being made against him as they questioned the integrity of the office of president, people familiar with the matter told the Journal.

“How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy! ” wrote Trump in one of the many tweets he posted accusing Obama, without providing any proof to back up his claims.

While Obama did not address the Twitter outburst on his own, a spokesman for the former president released a statement to contest the allegations.

“A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice,” said Kevin Lewis. “As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false.”

During an appearance on ABC News, former press secretary Josh Earnest said the Trump administration was attempting to distract people from its alleged ties to Russian officials. Earnest said, “President Trump is working very hard to try to distract the American public and the news media from the growing scandal about why his administration and why he himself has, at best, not been forthcoming about their talks and their ties with Russia.”
