Occupy New Year's Eve Vigil Coming to Zuccotti Park
Occupy New Year's Eve in Zuccotti Park will be the hot (free!) ticket this year for OWS protesters looking to ring in 2012 in solidarity with their brothers and sisters in arms.
The evening will kick off at 7 p.m. with a regularly scheduled meeting of the Occupy Wall Street General Assembly, which is likely to draw one of the largest groups of occupiers to the Lower Manhattan park since the encampment there was cleared last month.
A candlelight ceremony will then take place beginning at a minute before 2012, and ending at about 1 a.m.
The events is open to all ages, and organizers ask that any attendees who can afford to bring donations of warm clothing for the #OccupyWinter Community Give Back project, and a candle to show your solidarity with the Occupy movement.
The Occupy movement continues to be a force nationwide, but its presence in Zuccotti Park is severely diminished in the wake of the eviction of the group's encampment Nov. 15.
