Oculus Rift Launch Games: There Will Be 30 VR Titles Available With More Than 100 To Come
Oculus Rift announced its launch lineup of 30 games Wednesday. The titles include action games, platform adventures, racing, sports and more. "Lucky's Tale," "Adrift," "EVE: Valkyrie" and "Chronos" are among the first games available for the Oculus Rift. Most of the games are priced around $19.99 to $24.99, with the most expensive at $59.99.
Oculus Rift launches March 28 for those who were among the first to preorder the VR headset. Prior to Wednesday's announcement, Facebook-owned Oculus announced that all preorders will be bundled with "EVE Valkyrie" and "Lucky's Tale." All Rift headsets will include "Lucky's Tale" as a free title. In addition to games, Oculus said additional apps and content would be available at launch.
The 30 games include an "Adventure Time" title, "VR Tennis Online" and "Pinball FX2 VR." "Project CARS," considered one of the best racing simulator games, will be a launch title for the Rift. The popular bomb-defusing title where a group instructs the player in each step of the process, "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes," will also be a launch title.
"Elite Dangerous: Deluxe Edition" and "EVE Valkyrie: Founder's Pack" are the most expensive games at $59.99. Both games include additional content beyond the game. For "Elite Dangerous," the deluxe edition of the space combat and trading game includes the Season Pass, ships and items to customize your spacecraft. The special edition of "EVE Valkyrie" includes a fighter ship, 2,500 gold and early access to the game's forums.
The least expensive games include the bundled "Lucky's Tale" and "Adventure Time: Magic Man's Head Games" ($4.99). The mountain expedition experience "The Climb" is priced at $49.99 with an April release. "Fantastic Contraption," "Job Simulator," "VR Sports" and "Rock Band VR" were among the games playable at the 2016 Game Developers Conference. "Minecraft" was not among the playable games.
Oculus provided the comfort rating for each game, giving players an understanding of what to expect in terms of in-game motion. A game like "Adrift," set in space with action elements, is labeled as "intense" because it could lead to motion sickness. A game like "Pinball FX2 VR" was rated as "comfortable."
