Ohio Dog Owner's Corpse Eaten By 50 Dogs
An unidentified Elizabeth Township, Ohio, man in his 60s who lived alone with approximately 50 dogs was found dead in his home by local police last Friday. When police arrived, they discovered that the dogs had partially eaten their owner, whose corpse had been undiscovered for an unknown period of time.
Since no relatives of the deceased man have been located, the authorities are not releasing the dogs' owner's name.
I've been to a lot of bad situations since I've been here, Lawrence County Dog Warden Ben Call said. I believe this was the worst.
A police report states that the man may have been dead for a few weeks before he was discovered. According to the Daily Mail, the home of the dead man was filled with trash and animal waste. Some of the dogs were found starved to death, while others had to be euthanized because they were undernourished. Dead cats were also found in a trailer on the man's property.
Call believes that the man cared for the dogs but may have gotten overwhelmed taking care of them. A neighbor echoed Call's words, stating that he just wanted to be by himself all the time, just be with his dogs.
Of the 50 dogs, eight are now being cared for at the Lawrence County Dog Shelter.
