Ohio Domestic Abuse: Man Chokes Woman, Their Six-Month-Old Son, Charged
A man in Ohio was arrested Tuesday for choking a woman and their 6-month-old baby boy. He was hiding in his attic when police attempted to arrest him and came down only after several calls.
The unidentified woman called police from St. Elizabeth Health Center and told them Jason Harmon, 29, choked her and their son until she passed out following a verbal duel between them at her Manhattan Avenue home. The woman left the house after she gained consciousness on the pretext of going to work before driving herself and her son to the hospital. She said she dropped Harmon at a house in Sherwood Avenue midway.
Police nabbed Harmon from the home later that afternoon. He was charged with two counts of felonious assault and his bail was set at a $50,000 bond, WKBN reported.
The woman reportedly suffered bruises to her neck and the baby had them on the side of his face and the back of his hand. No further details regarding the case were revealed by the police.
Harmon was on probation after pleading guilty to a fifth-degree felony charge for possessing cocaine in September 2018. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse in 2015, leading to a six-month sentence with 120 days suspended, according to the publication. He was ordered to serve the remainder of his sentence after violating his probation.
In January 2019, a 21-year-old mother in South Africa choked and beat her 2-year-old son, recorded videos of the abuse before forwarding them to the baby’s father, to threaten him not to leave her. The woman was allegedly seen on the two minutes-long videos lying on bed with her son, while slapping and pinching him on the face and his buttocks, and kicking his head, while the baby grappled to breathe and wailed beyond control. The child was handed over to the father after being treated and the woman was arrested by the domestic violence services in New Castle.
