Olivia Wilde Served With Custody Papers From Jason Sudeikis While Onstage At CinemaCon: Report
KEY POINTS
- Olivia Wilde received an envelope while she was on stage to discuss her film "Don't Worry Darling" at CinemaCon Tuesday
- Reports later confirmed that Wilde was given custody papers by her ex-fiancé Jason Sudeikis
- Sudeikis "had no prior knowledge" of when and where the papers would be delivered, one report claims
Olivia Wilde was in the middle of a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Tuesday when she was served legal papers pertaining to her children with ex-fiancé Jason Sudeikis, a report says.
Wilde was discussing her upcoming film "Don't Worry Darling" at the event when an unidentified woman in the front approached the stage and handed her an envelope marked "personal and confidential." Attendees were left confused, and some speculated that the envelope was an unsolicited script.
However, unnamed sources confirmed to People that the director and actress was given custody papers by Sudeikis.
"Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms. Wilde and Mr. Sudeikis," an unnamed source close to Sudeikis told the outlet, referring to the former couple's son Otis, 8, and daughter Daisy Josephine, 5.
"Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner," the insider continued.
A representative for Sudeikis has not responded to the outlet's request for comment, while a rep for Wilde has not commented.
Upon receiving the manila envelope, Wilde asked the woman who handed it to her, "This is for me?"
The actress then remarked that it seemed "very mysterious," adding that she was "going to open it now because it feels like it's a script."
After opening it, she said, "Okay, got it. Thank you."
Wilde then continued her presentation, picking up where she left off with her remarks on "Don't Worry Darling." She made no further comment on the contents of the envelope.
Once the parcel was confirmed to contain court documents, questions surfaced regarding the woman who brought the envelope, and how she gained entry into the CinemaCon event and got close enough to the stage.
"As the convention organizer, we have never in the history of the convention had an incident where a delegate has approached the stage who was not authorized to be there. In light of this incident, we are re-evaluating our security procedures to ensure the safety of all of our attendees," Mitch Neuhauser, managing director at CinemaCon, told People in a statement Wednesday.
Neuhauser did not say whether the woman with the envelope was apprehended, or whether she had CinemaCon access.
Wilde and Sudeikis were engaged for seven years and were in a relationship for almost 10 years in total before they split in 2020.
In July 2021, the "Ted Lasso" star confirmed that they called it quits in November 2020 after some reports claimed they broke up at the beginning of 2021. Just two months after Wilde and Sudeikis called off their engagement, she sparked romance rumors with her current boyfriend, Harry Styles.
At the time, Sudeikis admitted it wasn't clear to him why he and Wilde parted ways. "I'll have a better understanding of why in a year," he said in an interview for GQ's August 2021 issue.
The actor has since moved on from his ex and reignited his romance with model Keeley Hazell. They were photographed kissing on a beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in November 2021.
