Olympic Recap: Soccer and Track Provide Thrilling Results

Women's soccer dominated the headlines on Monday, as the stage has been set for the gold-medal match on Thursday at Wembley Stadium.

The U.S. advanced over Canada in an overtime thriller at Old Trafford in Manchester to reach the final, 4-3. Alex Morgan headed home the game winner in the dying moments of overtime. Canadian striker Christine Sinclair scored a hat trick in the losing effort.

The Americans will face Japan, in a rematch of the 2011 Women's World Cup, as Japan held off France, 2-1.

In basketball, LeBron James and Kevin Durant gave spirited efforts against Argentina in the final group-play match, as the U.S. used a third-quarter surge to get the win, 126-97. The U.S., which won Group A, will face Australia next.

It was another exciting day for track and field. Felix Sanchez, 34, of the Dominican Republic, won gold in the 400-meter hurdles title -- eight years after he first won it in Athens. American Michael Tinsley won the silver, while compatriot Angelo Taylor, who won gold in the event in 2000 and 2008, finished fifth.

Grenada earned its first-ever gold medal, as Kirani James won the men's 400-meter dash. He edged Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic by 0.52 seconds.

American Jenn Suhr pole-vaulted 15 feet and 7 inches to win the gold medal and defeat Cuba's Yarisley Silva.

In Greco-Roman wrestling, Omid Norouzi, of Iran, won gold in the 60kg category by defeating Georgian Revaz Lashkhi.

Brazil and South Korea each earned their first gold medals in gymnastics, as Arthur Zanetti won the men's rings, while Yank Hak-seon won the men's vault.

Meanwhile, judoka Nick Delpopolo was barred from the London Games after testing positive for marijuana. The American says he unwittingly ate a "hash brownie."
