The U.S. Anti Doping Agency confirmed Friday that Olympic Sprinter Sh’Carri Richardson has been banned from the 100-meter sprint after testing positive for cannabis.

The positive test came after Richardson showcased her credentials to win the gold medal at the U.S. Olympic trials. She ran the 100 meters at 10.86 seconds.

“I’m human. We are all human. I want to be as transparent as possible. Whether it’s good or bad,” Richardson said on NBC's "Today. Richardson said she was using the drug to cope with the recent death of her mother.

The USADA reduced her ban to one month because she used cannabis outside of competition.

Richardson can still run in the 4x100m relay in August if she is one of the two athletes selected.

Nike plans to continue sponsoring Richardson. “We appreciate Sha’Carri’s honesty and accountability and will continue to support her through this time,” the company said.

When asked if she was hoping to compete in the relay, Richardson responded, “Right now I’m just putting all my time and energy into dealing with what I need to deal with to heal myself.”

“If I’m allowed to take place (at the Olympics), I would be grateful for it, but right now I’m working on myself,” she said. “The incident was about marijuana, so after my sanction is up, I’ll be back and able to compete every time I step foot on the track."
