Is ‘Once Upon A Deadpool’ A Real Movie?
Ryan Reynolds posted a video for “Once Upon A Deadpool” Monday morning, and some fans aren’t sure what to make of it. Rest assured, it isn’t just a viral video attempt. It’s a trailer for a real movie, but it isn’t exactly new.
“Once Upon A Deadpool” is actually a PG-13 version of “Deadpool 2,” which was released in May as an R-rated movie. Reynolds said Twentieth Century Fox has long been asking for a family-friendly Deadpool flick.
“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Reynolds told Deadline earlier this month. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”
However, the trailer makes it clear that he indeed found a way to pay homage to “The Princess Bride.” Savage played the cute little boy hearing the fairytale in the 1987 movie. Now, the 42-year-old will hear the edited version of the “Deadpool” sequel.
While this is obviously a move that will make more money for Fox, it also has a charity tie-in. Fudge Cancer, which typically starts with an expletive is being renamed just for “Once Upon A Deadpool,” will get $1 from the sale of each ticket.
“Once Upon A Deadpool” hits theaters on Friday, Dec. 12 and will stay in theaters for 12 days.
