‘Once Upon A Time’ ‘Frozen’ Casting Rumors: 6 Actresses Oncers Want To See Play Elsa
Ever since the shocking Season 3 finale of ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” Sunday night, in which Disney’s “Frozen” was revealed as next season’s villain, fans of the fantasy ABC series have racked their brains trying to image the perfect actress to portray the program’s newfound character, Princess/Queen Elsa. While “OUAT” showrunners, Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitis, have yet to confirm the name of an actress set to play the icy royal, that hasn’t stopped viewers from speculating who might join the beloved fairytale cast. Without further ado, here is a roundup of the six actresses Oncers want to see play Elsa on Season 4 of “Once Upon a Time”:
Idina Menzel
The actress of who voiced Elsa in the hit 2013 Disney animated film, Idina Menzel, is, of course, being considered as a potential, future “OUAT” star. “We have an offer out to Adele Dazeem [Idina Menzel] to play Elsa,” Horowitz revealed to Entertainment Weekly Monday. While Menzel, 42, may seem like the most logical choice to play Elsa, she isn’t the only star who has received the stamp of approval from viewers.
Dianna Agron
With the series finale of “Glee” rapidly approaching, some Oncers have pegged the musical show’s actress, Dianna Agron, as an ideal Elsa. One huge supporter of Agron’s rumored casting on the live-action ABC series: the popular “Queen Elsa” Twitter page. While Agron has yet to comment on the casting buzz, the Twitter page's request for its 208,000 plus followers to “retweet” a photo of Agron in full Arendelle attire has already received over 1,680 “favorites” and counting.
Claire Holt
Rumors that “The Vampire Diaries” turned “The Originals” actress Claire Holt might be playing Elsa is causing quite the commotion on the Web, but the chatter isn’t all positive. While some feel the 25-year-old blondie could perfectly portray the icy royal, others haven’t been shy about sharing their disapproval of the casting speculation. “Claire Holt as Elsa? Hmm… I don’t see it,” posted one Twitter fan Wednesday. “I’m still not over the fact that Claire Holt might be playing Elsa,” added another viewer Thursday. “Nope. Nope. Nope. Do not approve of everyone’s sudden desire of Claire Holt for Elsa. Nope,” added another.
Amanda Schull
She might be best known as the villainous teacher Meredith from ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars,” but to some Oncers, actress Amanda Schull is the perfect Elsa. A recent fan-made “OUAT” poster of Schull portraying the animated Disney Princess is so believable, it recently sparked confusion among fans of the series this week. “There is a poster with Amanda Schull on it, as Elsa. It’s FAN MADE,” confirmed one spoiler site, adding, “Open your eyes! Elsa hasn’t been cast!”
Sarah Michelle Gellar
One of the oldest of the rumored candidates, former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, 37, also has a “OUAT” backing. Following in the footsteps of the actresses Spain-based fan Facebook site requesting fans to trend the phrase #SMGasElsaInOUAT Monday, some Oncers have taken to the casting idea. “I kinda want Sarah Michelle Gellar to play the new ‘OUAT’ villain but I know she’s too busy with ‘The Crazy Ones,” said one fan Sunday night, following the show’s Season 3 finale. “I would love for @RealSMG to play Elsa when ‘Frozen’ comes to ‘OUAT’ this fall! I’m betting you would love that too, Sarah!!” tweeted another fan Wednesday.
Elizabeth Mitchell
While not one the most popular fan choices, “Revolution” actress Elizabeth Mitchell has made her way to the "OUAT" casting rumor mill. “Can we please have #ElizabethMitchell on @OnceABC as Elsa?” one fan tweeted to Horowitz Monday alongside an photoshopped image of the blonde TV actress dressed as the iconic Disney character. Another image of the 31-year-old posing in the series' fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine has also caused a stir. “Elizabeth Mitchell as Elsa in #OUAT? Very good idea!” shared another fan.
