ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Champion's Next Fight Announced For January
KEY POINTS
- Nong-O Gaiyanghadao's next challenger will be Alaverdi Ramazanov
- The Dagestani once held the ONE bantamweight kickboxing title
- Stamp Fairtex will also be featured on the card in a hybrid match
Nong-O Gaiyanghadao had always dreamed of promoting the sport of Muay Thai to the North American audience, and he will have his chance as he defends his title against Alaverdi Ramazanov at ONE on Prime Video 6.
He has been an undefeated monster of a man in the bantamweight Muay Thai division since joining ONE Championship in 2018, racking up nine-straight victories–winning his last four by knockout.
While many view him as the undisputed greatest of all time in the division, the Dagestani fighter is out to prove that he will be the one to end Nong-O's three-year reign atop the mountain.
Ramazanov had an impressive showing against former bantamweight kickboxing king Capitan Petchyindee Academy as he pushed the former champion to his absolute limit for the better part of three rounds, claiming the win by split decision at ONE 161.
Quick and calculated with his shots, the former bantamweight kickboxing champion is one of the most dangerous opponents that Nong-O will face in his career that stretches back to the early 2000s.
Ramazanov, for all of his strengths as a striker that sets up his combos with punches first then kicks, will need to be careful of Nong-O's powerful chopping leg kicks after the Thai star defeated Liam Harrison by knockout in August with an accumulation of leg kicks.
For those not familiar with his body of work, Nong-O reached the upper echelons of the sport when he captured the Lumpinee Stadium title thrice in his career (2006, 2007, 2009, 2013) and was crowned Lumpinee Stadium Fighter of the Year twice (2005, 2010).
Similar to the NBA's Madison Square Garden, Lumpinee Stadium is the absolute holy ground of Muay Thai as the greatest of the sport can only claim such status if they were able to capture the namesake title in their weight division.
ONE Championship recognized the importance of growing Muay Thai to an international audience and announced in mid-September that the promotion will be holding events at the iconic stadium, which will be broadcasted under the ONE Lumpinee program.
Nong-O had previously expressed his desire to help Muay Thai be recognized and having another fight on a ONE on Prime Video card against a high-level opponent is the ideal situation for him.
Also on the card is the No. 1-ranked women's atomweight in Stamp Fairtex as she takes on Anissa Meksen in a Muay Thai–mixed martial arts hybrid encounyer–the second of its kind in the organization's history.
ONE on Prime Video 6 will take place on January 13, live from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
