ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai King Thinks Rodtang Jitmuangnon Has No Equal
KEY POINTS
- Rodtang Jitmuangnon will compete in the semifinals of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix
- Bantamweight Muay Thai king Nong-O believes that Rodtang's upcoming match will be a must-watch affair
- Nong-O also also makes a comment on the possibility of them fighting in a potential super-fight
ONE Championship is returning to the United States primetime with ONE on Prime Video 1 on August 26 and will be headlined by the rematch between Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson.
Joining them atop the marquee are two Muay Thai champions in the form of bantamweight king Nong-O Gaiyanghadao and flyweight titleholder Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
Nong-O is set to take on the United Kingdom’s Liam Harrison in the co-main event, while Rodtang faces Savvas Michael of Cyprus in the semifinals of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix.
“I can’t wait to watch this fight. Savvas is a veteran fighter in Thailand. As for Rodtang, it’s needless to say how strong he is. We will definitely see some fierce trading in their fight,” said Nong-O regarding his fellow countryman fighting on the same card as him.
In the world of Muay Thai, Rodtang is quickly proving that there is no one else like him after racking up a ONE Championship record of 11-straight victories.
The streak featured victories over notable fighters like Danial Williams, Petchdam Petchyindee Academy and Jonathan Haggerty twice, their second meeting being a TKO victory due to the three-knockdown rule.
From Nong-O’s perspective, Rodtang is doing everything correctly in his young career as he aims to become the flyweight division’s undisputed king by holding the title and winning the Grand Prix.
“Lately, he knows how to embrace the fight IQ in his fighting as well. He fought a lot smarter [recently]. He finally knows how to combine techniques and aggression. He is extraordinary. I don’t think anyone can handle him at the moment,” Nong-O mentioned.
Rodtang currently has had three successful title defenses to his name since winning the belt against Haggerty in 2019, and it certainly looks like he will hold on to the belt for a long time if he continues to improve.
After all, Rodtang is only 25 years old, but that has not prevented fans from asking about a potential match between him and Nong-O happening down the line.
Nong-O noted that while fighting Rodtang would be the toughest fight in his career, it would have to be determined at weight they will fight in since the former is 10 pounds heavier than his compatriot.
But Nong-O, 35, thinks Rodtang will be unstoppable as he approaches the height of his career.
“I can’t see anyone who can stop him. But anything can happen in combat sports. Therefore, you must not be careless. The tide can be turned anytime,” he stated.
North American fans of ONE Championship can watch ONE on Prime Video 1 on Friday, August 26 at 9:00 PM ET.
