ONE Championship is set to reach an even wider audience after partnering with Amazon Prime Video to be its broadcast partner in North America.
In a press release sent to the International Business Times, Prime Video is set to air at least 12 live events exclusively in the United States and Canada, the first of which will be announced later in the year.
Chatri Sityodtong, the company chairman and CEO, was more than happy to talk more about the partnership.
“As the world’s largest martial arts organization, we believe our collaboration with Prime Video will allow us to reach a wider North American audience that is hungry for an authentic and differentiated product you simply cannot get with any other organization,” the Thai-Japanese executive said in the announcement.
UFC legend and ONE vice president Rich Franklin spoke about the organization being nearer than ever to hosting a live event in North America after the approval they received from Colorado’s Office of Combative Sports in July 2021.
With the promotion having one foot in the door thanks to that development, the partnership with Prime Video may further better their efforts in that regard.
ONE recently followed up their stellar 10th-anniversary card back in March with ONE 156 last Friday, April 22, which saw Regian Eersel defend his lightweight kickboxing title against Germany’s Arian Sadikovic and Smilla Sundell upend Jackie Buntan for the inaugural strawweight Muay Thai championship.
Breaking through the North American market would do wonders to further legitimize ONE Championship’s claims to being one of the top-tier combat sports organizations in the world today.
Maria Donoghue, the vice president of global sports video for Amazon, also discussed their new partnership with ONE Championship.
“We are proud to add exclusive coverage of ONE Championship events to our suite of marquee live sports offerings,” she mentioned.
“In addition to offering a full suite of martial arts disciplines, ONE Championship shares our mutual commitment to elevating female athletes, boasting five reigning female world champions.”
ONE Championship will be back in action on May 20 as Jimmy Vienot of France challenges Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy for the featherweight Muay Thai title, while Prajanchai PK.Saenchai looks to fend off Joseph Lasiri for the strawweight Muay Thai title.
The event will also see the quarterfinals of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix featuring Rodtang Jitmuangnon versus Jacob Smith and the highly-touted Jonathan Haggerty taking on Walter Goncalves of Brazil.
