Is One Direction Gay? New ?Gay Direction? Meme Takes Over Twitter [PICTURES]
One of the latest sensations to bring the classic boy-band trend back, One Direction, has taken the pop world by storm. The five-piece music group, a result of Simon Cowell's creation, became the first British band to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. Move over Justin Bieber, it looks like there's some competition for pre-teen female affections.
Their debut album, Up All Night boasted 176,000 CD sales in its first week, the first accomplishment of this kind to be achieved by any British band. This even beats out music icons such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Bee Gees, The Sex Pistols, Oasis and Radiohead.
However, the boy band sensation is garnering attention for more than their tunes. Unlike 90s pop phenomena NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys; One Direction is emerging in an era of social media and digital dominance. And you know what that means; lot of Internet buzz.
One direction has become the object of the latest meme to hit the web, known as Gay Direction. Fans flooded Twitter feeds today with various images of the band insinuating sexual behavior between the group members. The band consists of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan.
Of course, there is no confirmation that any of the music entertainers are in fact gay. This is just the product of fan infatuation in the age of social media. However, the folks over at Now Daily want band member Louis Tomlinson to be gay.
I know One Direction's Louis Tomlinson isn't gay, but he should be, the online gossip website writes. The celebrity speculation source sites reasons such as his stylish threads and the appeal of a relationship with fellow band mate Harry Styles.
The bromance thing Louis Tomlinson's got going on with Harry Styles would be that much cuter if he was gay too, showing straight men everywhere that there's nothing more valuable than a gay wingman, writes Now.
These are some of the few crazy fan-crafted photos that have surfaced on Twitter.
