One Direction Rumored To Be Officially Breaking Up After Band Members Reportedly Don't Renew Contract
One Direction was going to go on hiatus in March to take some time off before going back to work as a group. However, it's now rumored that the boy band will be stepping away for good, so each member - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne - can explore individual projects.
According to Us Weekly, One Direction did not renew their recording contract when their tour came came to an end in October 2015. Liam is reportedly interested in production and song writing, while Harry is said to be looking to build an acting career.
"The 1D thing just ran its course. They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers," a source told the magazine.
News of the band's hiatus broke in August 2015. E! Online reported that while they were taking time away from one another, they still plained to remain friends and work together in the future.
"They are very aware that they are able to work on their own stuff as well as remain together. This is an exciting time for them creatively and as a group," the source told E! Online.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last November, the band said it was important for them to take some time off. Horan then clarified that it was a break and they wouldn't be disbanding for good.
"We're not breaking up. We're literally taking time out to see our friends and see our family and reflect on what we've done over the last few years," Horan said.
One Direction has sort of dealt with a break up before. Zayn Malik quit the band in March 2015, which left the group as a four piece. Malik has since pursued a solo career.
If the reported hiatus is permanent, this would mean that the band's last album release would be "Made in the A.M." which has sold over 743,000 copies in the U.S. since being released in November 2015. Their band last performed together at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve earlier this month.
