Cristiano Ronaldo has one goal he will never achieve despite being one of the world’s greatest soccer players.

Ronaldo’s father Jose Dinis Aveiro died of liver failure in September 2005 at the age of 52 following a battle with alcoholism . Over the course of his stellar career, Ronaldo never had his father beside him.

In an interview with Piers Morgan which will be broadcasted on British television this week, the Portuguese superstar broke down in tears after watching a video of his late father talking about him.

Morgan and the ITV team uncovered some old footages of Ronaldo’s father praising his son . Ronaldo admitted that he never saw the video as he wiped his tears.

"I never saw the video. I never saw that video. Unbelievable,” Ronaldo admitted.

The video refreshed Ronaldo of the one goal he knew he will never achieve in his life – to let his father witness his past and future accomplishments as an athlete.

“To be the number one and he doesn’t see anything. He doesn’t see me receive awards,” Ronaldo exclaimed.

Ronaldo also noted that it has been a “bittersweet” experience seeing his whole family witness his greatness except his late father.

"My family see, my mom, my brothers, even my old son, but my father, he didn't see nothing. He died young," Ronaldo said.

Due to his father’s alcoholism, Ronaldo admitted that they never had meaningful conversations. But what is more regretful for the soccer icon was the fact that he never got the chance to know his father well when he was still alive.

"But I really don't know my father 100 per cent. He was a drunk person. I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation. It was hard," Ronaldo said.

In soccer, it is not everyday that the people see Ronaldo express raw emotions, which is why Ronaldo even noted in the interview that he did not expect to cry at all.

"I think the interview would be funny, but I didn't expect to cry,” Ronaldo said.

When his father passed away, Ronaldo was just 20 years old. He was still in the process of developing into a top player under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

After all, Ronaldo remains focused on his career. In fact, a few days ago, Ronaldo scored another epic goal against Serbia.

The goal was Ronaldo’s way of silencing the Serbian crowd for chanting Lionel Messi’s name everytime he touches the ball.
