High blood pressure is a global problem that affects millions of people. This occurs when blood pressure starts increasing, creating health problems. It has even earned the moniker “the silent killer,” considering that symptoms don’t get detected easily.
While this may have become a huge problem in modern society, there is still something that can be done to arrest it. One lifestyle change can be implemented in order to lower blood pressure reading.
One Surprising Finding
According to health experts, stress may not be linked directly to high blood pressure. However, they state that if you reduce stress levels, you would also be able to improve your health. This improvement includes decreasing blood pressure levels.
When a person is stressed, it could lead to a spike in blood pressure levels, albeit a temporary one at that. There is a caveat though; these short term blood pressure spikes could add up and cause an increase in blood pressure levels in the long run.
Mayo Clinic explained that when a person is under a stressful situation, there is a surge of hormones in the body. The hormones then increase blood pressure. You start to feel your heart beating faster. In addition, blood vessels also start to narrow.
It further explained that these hormones could cause damage to the arteries. Frequent blood pressure spikes could eventually cause damage to the kidneys and the heart.
Reduce Stress
Although it’s easier said than done, reducing your stress levels is possible. Doing so can certainly create huge positive benefits for your health. Stress management techniques are available, or you could also see some friends or family whom you know are very good at managing stressful situations.
You could also turn to traditional ways of managing stress. Try to exercise more. Science states that exercise produces endorphins, which helps in making you feel good. The amount of caffeine that you consume every day must be reduced as well. Spend time with friends and family whom you could laugh with.
Once you reduce stress, your blood pressure will follow. Aside from lower blood pressure readings, you would also be able to live a happier and healthier life.
