OnePlus 5 Launching Soon, CEO Pete Lau Teases Phone On Weibo
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau teased an artsy image of the company’s upcoming flagship — the OnePlus 5 on Chinese social network Weibo Tuesday.
The upcoming smartphone is expected to compete with leading 2017 flagship devices such as the Google Pixel 2 and Samsung Galaxy S8 by offering similar features at a competitive price, just like its predecessors. OnePlus is actually skipping over a generation — it is going from the OnePlus 3T to the OnePlus 5, instead of launching OnePlus 4.

While this is the first official indication of the OnePlus 5’s existence the device has been surfacing in rumors and leaks.
While the artwork posted by Lau, which shows some construction workers, working on a large OnePlus 5 with fast charging signals around it, doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming device, rumors and leaks about the device have given us an idea of what features the device could have.
Here are the expected features of the upcoming flagship:
Dual-cameras: The OnePlus 5 could feature a vertical dual-camera setup, similar to the one rumored for the Apple iPhone 8, according to a leaked image, which surfaced last Wednesday. The image shows a device with a dual camera and flash, all vertically placed, molded into a seamless back. The image also shows three buttons on the sides, similar to Lau’s artwork. While two of the buttons should be a volume rocker and a power button, the purpose of the third one is not yet known. It could possibly be a button for the Google Assistant, similar to the Bixby button on the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Edge-to-edge display: Since the OnePlus 5 is expected to compete with leading flagships it might have an edge-to-edge display. The display is one of the leading features of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and is also expected to be included in the Apple iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 835: Now that the Samsung Galaxy S8 has been launched, Qualcomm might soon be free to offer its 10nm technology-based Snapdragon 835 processor to other smartphone companies. The processor provides better battery life and more efficient performance than existing 14nm processors.

6/8 GB RAM: Since OnePlus will be competing with the leading smartphones such as the Galaxy S8 and Google Pixel 2, it will really have to do its best in terms of performance. This means that along with a 10nm processor, it will need a high amount of RAM. According to Korea Portal, the device might feature 6 GB or even an 8 GB RAM, which would allow high-performance tasks on the device, including playing high-end games and recording high-resolution videos. Korea Portal’s report adds that the company might even have 256GB variant of the OnePlus 5 on offer.
Android 7.0 out-of-the-box: Since the OnePlus 5 is expected to launch sometime around July and Google is expected to launch the next version of Android – Android O in October. That means the device is expected to launch with Android 7.0 and get an Android O update later.
