OnLive Brings Hottest Gaming Revolution on Smartphones and Tablets via Cloud
Good news to smartphones and tablet users who crave for gaming without compromising on splendid graphics - OnLive, a Silicon Valley-based pioneer of on-demand, instant-play video game service, has announced the launch of an application (app) which enables users of mobile devices such as iPhone, iPad and Android-based smartphones and tablets, including Amazon's Kindle Fire, to enjoy console-class gaming.
Till now, high-performance games was limited only to game consoles or computers as they eat up a lot of disk space and it is hard to compress them into small files.
But OnLive proudly showed off their breakthrough technology, which uses cloud computing. By connecting to the powerful servers of OnLive via Internet, the gamers can play high-end games on demand over the Internet with the simplicity of streaming video. The move is expected to make big waves of change in the gaming industry.
Another gaming service company, Gaikai (based on L.A.), is also working on a similar gaming service. If these services prove to be successful, customer will no longer need to buy gaming hardware such as game consoles made by Sony or Microsoft, Nintendo.
Whether we know much of gaming or not, the service is quite revolutionary in a sense that cloud computing territories have got expanded further. It means that cloud computing, which is usually used for data back-up like Apple's iCloud or Amazon's Cloud Drive, has now reached once-impossible-looking regions such as console-style, high-performance gaming.
And, this is no small feat as, needless to say, even a single moment of disconnection should not be allowed in high-performance gaming. OnLive and Gaikai's push require high technology to solve this problem.
“Today marks a major milestone: OnLive is now delivering the latest, console-class, top-tier games—literally to your fingertips—on tablets and phones for instant, on-demand play anywhere, anytime,” said Steve Perlman, founder and CEO of OnLive Founder.
OnLive has already tasted success in its pilot run - LA Noire (an award-winning, crime-solving game that features realistic description of the characters and actions) - has been received well by mobile gamers. Other popular games OnLive is offering are: Batman: Arkham City, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
OnLive will also be selling a wireless mobile device-compatible controller (which utilizes OnLive’s exclusive adaptive wireless technology to automatically find an optimal wireless connection to mobile devices) called Universal OnLive Wireless Controller, for $50 via OnLive Web store here.
And, here's the icing on the cake - OnLive technology not only works with Wi-Fi but it also supports 4G LTE network enabling full, HD-resolution, low-latency cloud gaming on devices such as HTC Jetstream, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Motorola Xoom.
Indeed, OnLive has pushed the boundaries of gaming world further into newer dimensions where everyone can enjoy high-end gaming, indoor or outdoor.
