Open-World Dinosaur Game ‘Ark: Survival Evolved’ Announced For Consoles And PC
If one were to combine the setting of “Jurassic Park” with the gameplay of “DayZ,” the result would lead to “Ark: Survival Evolved.” The game follows a group of survivors who are stuck in an island filled with dinosaurs. They must survive by attempting to stay away from various dinosaurs that would rather have them for dinner than guests.
Developing this dinosaur-filled online shooter is a new game studio called Wildcard, a company staffed by veteran game designers though their resumes have not been publicized. Gamespot reported the game was inspired by popular dinosaur films like “Dinotopia” and “Jurassic Park.”
“Ark: Survival Evolved” looks to be an ambitious game if the trailer below is any indication. Not only will various players have to team up to take down other dinosaurs, they can also rebuild a society and tame dinosaurs. According to the game’s official Facebook page, all the video footage seen in the trailer was taken from live online gameplay, and the finished version of the game will support mods on the PC version.
One of the key features showcased throughout the trailer is the ability to ride dinosaurs like the brontosaurus and the velociraptor. Though the actual taming of the dinosaurs has yet to be shown, the ability to travel with them should make for a faster experience.
The trailer also teases other features that could make it to the final product, like the ability to use dinosaur parts for items and rebuilding society in the island. Also showcased are various weapons in the game, which can range from small axes to machineguns, though how these weapons are obtained is still unknown.
Developer Wildcard has confirmed “Ark: Survival Evolved” will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC soon, though an official release date has not yet been set. Steam users will be able to try a pre-alpha build of the game in June as an early access title.
