Oracle Buys Collective Intellect For More Cloud Services

Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL), the No. 1 database developer, said it had agreed to acquire private Collective Intellect to bolster its Cloud capabilities for software-as-a-service functions.
Terms weren't disclosed. Collective Intellect, of Boulder, Colo., has a proprietary semantic and analytical technology that analyzes language use and terms for social media.
Oracle, of Redwood Shores, Calif., reported cash and investments of nearly $30 billion in its most recent quarter. Last month, it acquired private Vitrue, another cloud company based in Atlanta that specializes in marketing.
On Monday, rival Salesforce.com (Nasdaq: CRM)of San Francisco announced plans to acquire Buddy Media Inc. of New York for $745 million for its marketing products that operate on sites like Facebook (Nasdaq: FB), the No. 1 social network and Twitter.
Shares of Oracle rose 6 cents to $26.26 in early trading.
