‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 3 Spoilers: Mary Steenburgen Tweets About Joining Cast
It looks like Mary Steenburgen is the new black! That’s right, the Academy Award-winning actress has been the talk of the town since she announced that she’ll be appearing in Season 3 of the Netflix original series, “Orange is the New Black.”
“Very excited to go to my first wardrobe fitting of OITNB! Will I be in orange or black? :)” the veteran actress teased on Twitter. But will the “actor, songwriter, accordion player” (according to her Twitter bio) be sporting said wardrobe behind bars? Fans will have to wait to find out!
We know, we know – the anticipation is killing us, too! Especially after most of us have already binge-watched Season 2. So, to keep you from falling off the edge of your chair, here’s everything you should know about Litchfield’s potential prisoner:
The 61-year-old actress was reportedly discovered by Jack Nicholson in the reception room of Paramount’s New York office – we always knew he had good taste. She was then cast as the female lead in his second directorial film, the 1978 flick “Goin’ South.”
Early in her career, Steenburgen won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the 1980 film “Melvin and Howard.” She also received rave reviews for her work in the 1983 movie “Cross Creek,” where she played the role of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.
Other productions Steenburgen has appeared in are “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” (1993), “Nixon” (1995), “Life as a House” (2001), “Elf” (2003), “Step Brothers” (2008), “The Proposal” (2009) and “The Help” (2011)… just to name a few.
She's also the wife of Ted Danson and ex-wife of Malcolm McDowell.
But this movie-screen stunner is no stranger when it comes to television. Steenburgen has appeared on several series from “30 Rock” to “Bored to Death.” Impressed? We are, too! And although we can’t predict which character Steenburgen will be playing in the third season we can foresee this: She’s going to win the hearts of fans all over again with her charming ways and witty personality.
