‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 4 Spoilers: Where Is Bennett? Matt McGorry Teases If His Character Will Return
Where is John Bennett (Matt McGorry)? That’s the question on every fan’s mind after the Litchfield Penitentiary correctional officer went missing in Season 3 of the hit Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black.”
When viewers last saw Bennett (Matt McGorry) in episode 2, titled “Bed Bugs and Beyond,” Daya’s (Dascha Polanco) baby daddy was furiously speeding off into the oblivion after having tossed a crib, gifted to him by Cesar (Berto Colon), to the side of the road. See, before the expectant father went AWOL, leaving behind his imprisoned, pregnant fiancé, Bennett had paid Aleida’s (Elizabeth Rodriguez) boyfriend a visit to announce the exciting news that he and Daya were getting hitched – well, once her prison sentence ended.
However, the joyous occasion was sabotaged when Ceaser pulled out a gun on one of his children during the celebratory meal when his boy refused to eat re-heated french-fries made by Ceaser’s “side thing.” Now, we’re not sure what exactly caused Bennett to flee – was it out of fear that he might end up like the gun-toting criminal? Or did Bennett dread becoming a member of Daya’s wild family once the baby was born? Either way… he made his choice, leaving Daya (and fans) wondering where on Earth he could be.
McGorry teased his character’s whereabouts when he spoke with Extra TV during the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour. “I think it’s always possible,” the actor said of whether or not Bennett would return to Season 4 of “OITNB,” which was renewed in April. “He’s not dead – as far as I know.” Phew! That's a relief.
Pushing for scoop, the reporter asked the tight-lipped actor if he knew his character’s fate and just couldn’t divulge Bennet’s status. “I don’t know if I can tell you if I know or don’t know,” McGorry said ambiguously. “It’s a confusing world, it’s a confusing world I live in.”
During an interview with Yahoo! TV in June, the actor dished that he’s hoping the writers bring Bennett back for the show’s fourth installment. "The thing that I can say about Season 4 is that it’s the writers’ decision about whether or not Bennett is back… I have my fingers crossed that he comes through and is the man that we all hoped he was," said McGorry. "But I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that wasn’t the case. Like me, I guess you’ll just have to wait and see."
