Oregon Police Search For Suspect After Blades Found in Children's Candy
Oregon authorities are searching for a suspect after blades were found in children's Halloween candy on Monday night.
The Eugene Police Department has narrowed its search to the neighborhood where the initial reporting family lives.
At least three reports were made from candy received in the area.
Residents have also posted on Facebook citing the discovery of what appear to be blades from pencil sharpeners found in a KitKat candy bar and Almond Joy candy bar after seeing slits in the packaging.
Following the discovery of the blades, the city of Eugene issued a civic alert to the public.
"The razor appears to be something similar to a pencil sharpener blade," city officials said.
There have been no reports of injury and police have advised parents to check their children's trick-or-treating candy before consumption.
"If there is someone out there who is watching this, who is guilty of this, I have one thing to say to them — you just might burn in hell," resident Debra May told KEZI 9.
Eugene Police Capt. Chris Harrison said Wednesday that the reports appear to be credible.
"We believe people when they say they're victims of a crime, and objectively investigate the circumstances in front of us. If it's found out it was untrue, that's unfortunate and potentially in some cases illegal, but there's nothing at all in this case to suggest it's being fabricated," Harrison said.
