A 20-year-old man Thursday faced charges in a string of stabbings and carjackings that started in Beaverton, Oregon, that left one person dead and three others injured.

Salvador Martinez-Romero was charged Wednesday night with murder, attempted murder and robbery, and held in the Washington County Jail.

Beaverton police said the spree began around 11 a.m. after police received reports two women had been stabbed, one fatally, during a robbery at a Wells Fargo Bank branch. Two other stabbing victims, a man and a woman, were found shortly after. Their cars reportedly had been stolen by Martinez-Romero.

“I came outside and there was an employee of the bank balling her eyes out she couldn’t even talk. ... That’s when they wheeled somebody that looked like they had like a stab wound to her neck, she was really bandaged and just there was a lot of blood,” witness Dillon Prickett told Portland NBC-affiliate KGW.

The three surviving victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, one in critical condition.

Martinez-Romero reportedly was spotted by police driving into Tigard before ditching the car and trying to flee on foot. He was ultimately arrested around 11:45 a.m. after police found him near Westside Christian High School in Tigard.

In response to the spree, Wells Fargo released an official statement:

"We are deeply saddened that an incident at our Murrayhill Marketplace branch in Beaverton resulted in the senseless death of one of our customers and injuries sustained by others. We offer our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved one. Our thoughts are also with the innocent people who witnessed this heinous crime.

"We are cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation. We are referring all questions to the Beaverton Police Department in order to preserve the integrity of that work. Counselors, through our Employee Assistance Consulting service, are available to support Wells Fargo team members in the wake of this terrible event."
