Is ‘Orphan Black’ Coming Back? Tatiana Maslany Narrates ‘The Next Chapter’

“Orphan Black” ended in 2017, but Clone Club still has something to be excited about. Tatiana Maslany will narrate a new story set in that world.

“Orphan Black: The Next Chapter” is not a TV series, but instead a series that is available for reading and listening. Maslany will narrate the 10-episode series, which will be available soon on Serial Box.

The digital reading and audio platform, which is working with Temple Street Productions, has hired Malka Older as showrunner and Mishell Baker, Lindsay Smith and Heli Kennedy as writers. Though it isn’t a TV series, it follows a similar format with a writers room and a pilot.

A press release from Serial Box notes that they will be “offering weekly episodes the length of an average commute.” Their site states that most series have 40-minute episodes. Fans can also switch between reading and listening easily.

This announcement was teased by Maslany earlier this week. She promised “Orphan Black” fans were “in for a treat.”

“Orphan Black,” which followed women who discovered they were clones, ran on BBC America for five seasons and scored Maslany an Emmy for best lead actress in a drama. It isn’t clear if “The Next Chapter” focuses on new clones or the ones fans already love like Sarah, Alison and Cosima. No plot details have been revealed.

Since the sci-fi series wrapped, Maslany has starred movies like “Destroyer” with Nicole Kidman and “Pink Wall” with Jay Duplass. Earlier this month, the Canadian actress had her final curtain call for Broadway’s “Network,” which she starred in alongside Bryan Cranston for several months.

Serial Box did not reveal an exact release date for “Orphan Black: The Next Chapter,” but the announcement states that it will be available later this summer. The first episode will be available to sample for free, and then audiences can buy episodes individually or with a season pass. It looks like episodes are under $2 each.
