Oscar Nominations 2012: Full List of Academy Award Nominees
The 2012 Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday morning and many favored contenders scored nods.
Martin Scorsese's Hugo, got 11 Oscar nominations and leading the pack. The Artist, which was a slated-favorite, took in 10. The Artist, a mostly-silent film starring Jean Dujardin about the transition of film into talkies, has not been a box office-blowout -- it has only grossed $12.1 million in the box office -- but has been collecting awards like candy.
The Artist director Michel Hazanavicius will be pitted against Hugo director Scorsese in one of the most highly-anticipated slots of 2012.
Michelle Williams scored a nomination for her performance in My Week with Marilyn. She will be up against veteran actress Meryl Streep for her rendition of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Irony Lady.
Some surprises were Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Tree of Life scoring Best Picture nods. For Best Actor, Demian Bichir clenched a nomination for his role in the lesser-known film, A Better Life.
Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence announced the nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The 2012 Academy Awards will air on Feb. 26 from the Kodak Theatre on ABC.
