Oscars 2021 Odds: What Movies Are Expected To Win? ‘Nomadland,’ ‘Soul’ Among Betting Favorites
The 93rd Academy Awards are set to take place Sunday night in Los Angeles, celebrating the best movies in what was certainly a strange year for the film industry. The public can now legally wager on which nominees will be victorious, and one movie in particular is expected to clean up.
“Nomadland” has the best odds in a few of the biggest categories at the 2021 Oscars. DraftKings Sportsbook makes “Nomadland” an overwhelming -670 favorite for best picture. Chloe Zhao is considered a virtual lock to win best director with -3335 odds. “Nomadland” is also favored to win best adapted screenplay and best cinematography with -400 odds for each award.
“The Trial of the Chicago 7” is viewed as the biggest best picture threat to “Nomadland” with +600 odds. “Minari” and “Promising Young Woman” could conceivably pull off the upset with +1400 and +1700 odds, respectively. “Judas & The Black Messiah” and “Mank” are long shots at +3300. It would be a shock if “Sound of Metal” (+5000) or “The Father” (+10000) win the night’s most prestigious honor.
Frances McDormand earned a best actress nomination for her role in “Nomadland,” though her +400 odds suggest she’s unlikely to win the award. Carey Mulligan from “Promising Young Woman” is the best actress favorite with +125 odds. For her role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” Viola Davis a contender with +200 odds.
The -455 odds indicate that “Promising Young Woman” might take home the award for best original screenplay
For his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” the late Chadwick Boseman is a heavy -1667 favorite. His biggest competition is Anthony Hopkins (+700) and Riz Ahmed (+1400).
Daniel Kaluuya starred in “Judas & The Black Messiah” and is expected to win best supporting actor with -2500 odds. Youn Yuh-jung has -500 odds to win best supporting actress for her role in “Minari.”
There is little suspense surrounding a few major awards. “Soul” (-5000) is the runaway favorite for best animated feature. “Another Round” (-1250) will very likely win best international feature film. For best documentary feature, “My Octopus Teacher” (-500) is a big favorite.
