  • Viola Davis wore a white Alexander McQueen gown and Stuart Weitzman pumps for the Oscars 2021
  • Her makeup artist has revealed how she created her look
  • Davis is nominated for best actress at the 2021 Oscars for her performance in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"

Viola Davis looked gorgeous and radiant when she arrived on the red carpet at Union Station in Los Angeles for the 2021 Oscars on Sunday.

For this year's ceremony, the best actress nominee donned a white Alexander McQueen gown featuring an intricate floral motif cut-out design on the bodice and a flowy skirt, Entertainment Tonight reported. She paired it with Stuart Weitzman pumps and accessorized with Forevermark white gold fine jewelry and a matching clutch.

The 55-year-old star complemented her outfit with a mohawk-style updo, smoky eyes and a petal pink lip, the outlet noted.

Her makeup artist, Autumn Moultrie, shared how they achieved her red carpet look. According to her, she used L'Oréal Paris skincare and makeup on the celebrity and matched her makeup with her dress.

"Viola's dress is always my inspiration for the look," Moultrie was quoted by People as saying. "We wanted the look to be soft and sophisticated, but also dramatic. That's why I went with a soft lip but a dramatic bold and metallic eye."

Davis shared with the outlet earlier that she likes to create a serene environment when getting ready with her glam team. Her preparations usually include music or a calming app.

"We have music playing in the house before everyone gets here. It used to be R&B classics. Now it's the Calm App," she told People.

Davis is nominated for best actress at the 2021 Oscars for her performance as 1920s blues singer Ma Rainey in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," which is an adaptation of the August Wilson play. This is her fourth Oscar nomination, making Davis the prestigious award show's most nominated Black female actor ever.

While Davis has already received a number of accolades, she still considers every nomination an honor.

"I'm in a profession that has a 95 percent unemployment rate. Point zero four percent of actors are famous," she told ET in February. "So, when an actor says, 'I feel grateful to be nominated,' you're absolutely right. It's miraculous -- it really is -- that I've gotten this far and getting these award nominations is proof positive."

Davis won an Oscar for best supporting actress in 2017 for another Wilson adaptation, "Fences."

She previously admitted that she is always "funky" during awards season. For her, there is actually "no best" because her performances are subjective based on the process itself, who she's work with and the work she's done rather than the awards that may follow.

"I'm always sort of trying to reconcile it, because there is no best," Davis explained.
