Norway saw its darkest day since World War Two as the death toll rose to at least 93 from bombing and the youth camp shooting rampage in Oslo, Friday. The worst national disaster was revealed to be elaborately planned and executed by Norway's homegrown terrorist, Anders Behring Breivik.
The 32-year-old mass murderer identified himself as a right wing extremist and has requested an open hearing so that he can have the opportunity to explain his massacre to the public on Monday’s first hearing.
However, the police have requested a media blackout not to provide Breivik the big public platform to talk about his ideology.
Just before the twin attacks on Friday, Breivik posted an online 1,500-page English document in which he explains how he had prepared the massacre and the reasons why he had to carry it out.
In the manifesto, Breivik expressed his desire to bring about a revolution in Norway. And he targeted Norway’s ruling Labour party, the government buildings, and the ruling party's youth wing on Utoeya island because they are too liberal and too lenient on immigration policy.
His lawyer Geir Lippestad said though his client had admitted to both attacks, he denied any criminal guilt saying his actions were "atrocious, but necessary."
He will be facing a maximum of 21 years in jail under Norwegian law but it can be extended if a prisoner is deemed a threat to the public.
The eyes of Norway and the world are now on this vicious gunman.

Anders Behring Breivik, 32, was arrested after Friday's massacre of young people on a tiny forested holiday island that was hosting the annual summer camp for the youth wing of Norway's ruling Labour party. Breivik, a Norwegian, was also charged with the bombing of Oslo's government district that killed seven people hours earlier. A suspected right-wing Christian gunman in police uniform killed at least 84 people in a ferocious attack on a youth summer camp of Norway's ruling Labour party, hours after a bomb killed seven in Oslo. Witnesses said the gunman, identified by police as a 32-year-old Norwegian, moved across the Utoeya holiday island on Friday firing at random as young people scattered in fear. Stoltenberg said Norwegian officials are working with foreign intelligence agencies to see if there there was any international involvement in the bomb and shooting that together have killed 91 people.
