‘Outlander’ Season 1 Spoilers: Watch Claire Steal A Goat In A Sneak Peek Video From Episode 5, ‘Rent’
Claire can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble in “Outlander” Season 1. In episode 5, aptly titled "Rent," Claire will be traveling with Dougal, Jamie and others to collect rent from people who live on MacKenzie land. It’s all to support the Jacobite cause, however Claire knows her history. The Scottish won’t win this fight, but Claire can’t exactly tell the MacKenzie's how history unfolds. They are already suspicious of her and believe her to be an English spy, so predicting the future definitely wouldn’t help her safety. However, Claire will find it very hard to stop herself from protecting a young child.
In the sneak peek video, Dougal’s crew has taken a family’s goat as payment. They were hiding the goat and trying to avoid paying rent because they can’t survive without the animal. When Claire realizes that a baby will go without milk, she tries to steal the goat from the Dougal's men.
Rupert tries to stop her, and he doesn’t have to put up much of a fight. He’s much larger than Claire. Angus Mhor, the spy who has to watch Claire, catches up to her and accuses her of being drunk. She’s not at all intoxicated and Dougal is more concerned that Angus lost Claire for a period of time. “How hard is it to keep watch over a Sassenach wench?” Dougal asks.
Claire yells at Dougal while Jamie looks on, but Dougal tells her that the animal is coming with them. “The beast is payment for rent, fair and square,” he says.
“So you’d let a child go hungry?” Claire asks.
Dougal doesn’t seem very sympathetic.
