‘Outlander’ Season 1 Spoilers: Will Jamie And Claire Break Up? Sam Heughan Teases Rough Future [POLL]

“Outlander” Season 1 will return with some steamy moments in April, but it won’t be all sex scenes and cuddling for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). Remember when Heughan told fans to “stay strong” through the hiatus? They might need to keep that strength through the whole season because Jamie and Claire’s marriage is about to take a downturn.

“They're constantly fighting their way to get back to where they were the wedding night," Heughan told TV Guide. "It's a great tragedy of the show that this relationship has been tainted for good ... I don't think we can ever get back there.”

Jamie and Claire were very happy together at the end of the first half of “Outlander” Season 1. However, Claire didn’t listen to Jamie’s orders and tried to get to Craigh Na Dun in the midseason finale. She was spotted and captured by Capt. Black Jack Randall’s (Tobias Menzies) men. While that led to the fun cliffhanger where Jamie jumped through the window to save his wife, the aftermath won’t be quite so fun to watch. Jamie will be angry that his wife disobeyed orders, and they’ll have to hide from Black Jack again.

They probably wouldn’t be in as much danger if it weren’t for Claire, and the Englishwoman will feel guilty about that. “When Jamie is taken and held by Jack Randall, that's such a pivotal moment in their relationship and in the series,” executive producer Ronald D. Moore said. “You can never take that away and that will always be part of [them] going forward. [Claire] feels an enormous burden of guilt. If she had not come and stayed -- she wonders if any of these events would've transpired.”

That guilt could affect their entire relationship. “They're constantly trying to find a way to reconnect, and at the very end of the season they're left in a very tentative place,” Heughan said.

Obviously Jamie and Claire have an epic love story, but it might not be strong enough to survive. Fans will have to wait until “Outlander” returns in April to see if Jamie and Claire’s relationship can last (or they could read the Diana Gabaldon book series).
