‘Outlander’ Season 3 Premiere Date Reveals New Night, New Timeslot
“Outlander” Season 3 is on the move. No longer will the show occupy Saturday nights at 9 p.m. The newly released air date reveals that the time travel drama will instead move to Sundays at 8 p.m. when it starts this September.
The premiere date for “Outlander” Season 3 is Sunday, Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. EDT on Starz. The move is not too surprising. Starz shifted their original programming to Sundays last year.
To get audiences even more excited, a new “Outlander” poster was released. The stones that allow Claire (Caitriona Balfe) to travel through time separate her from Jamie (Sam Heughan). While Claire looks a bit older, Jamie doesn’t appear to have aged much.
The drama will have been on hiatus for over a year by the time it returns to the small screen. Season 3 ended in July 2016. With the end of Droughtlander in sight, “Outlander” fans are more excited than ever for Jamie and Claire to return. However, it might be a while before the two characters reunite.

At the end of Season 2, Jamie and Claire were separated by a couple hundred years. Jamie sent his love back to her time before he went into the Battle of Culloden. When Claire learned that her Scottish husband survived the battle, she determined that she must go back.
In their 20 years apart, Jamie and Claire have been through quite a lot. The show will delve into what happened during their separation. Photos from Season 3 reveal Claire right after giving birth to Brianna and the teaser trailer hinted that other important memories with Frank (Tobias Menzies) would be shown. It sounds like viewers will see plenty of Claire’s flawed marriage.
“I think this season is different,” Balfe told Entertainment Weekly in December. “Especially in the first part of the season, we’re going through 20 years of Claire’s life and seeing little vignettes of who she’s become as a woman, and that was a very different type of challenge. How do you tell the story of a relationship and of a life and of a woman over her 20 years in the space of a few scenes? So that had its own unique challenges. It’s definitely different to last season.”
Eventually, the characters will reunite, and it sounds like their reunion on screen will follow the print shop scene that readers of Diana Gabaldon’s “Voyager” know all too well. After that, the characters will ditch Scotland for Jamaica (the show filmed the tropical scenes in Cape Town, South Africa).

Claire will have to take care of her highlander as he succumbs to seasickness, scenes Heughan recently admitted he wasn’t too fond of filming. During a question and answer session with fans, the actor was asked if he actually got sick on the boat. However, the only thing that made him sick was the fake vomit he had to hold in his mouth.
“Afraid not... But pretending to throw up raw eggs quite a few times can set someone off!” he revealed.
All of “Outlander” Season 3 has already been filmed. The long shoot wrapped last month in South Africa. Heughan is currently filming an action comedy called “The Spy Who Dumped Me” with Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis. Balfe’s Instagram makes it look like she is enjoying her time off by relaxing before the press tour for Season 3 starts later this summer.
“Outlander” Season 3 premieres Sunday, Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. EDT on Starz.
