‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Is Helping Fans Stay Home During Coronavirus Pandemic
Sam Heughan knows fans will stay in on Sunday nights to watch “Outlander” on Starz, but he is trying to give them more reasons to stay home amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Heughan’s workout program, My Peak Challenge, is offering a free 30-day challenge that can help fans stay active at home. “I hope you all are doing well through these unusual times,” Heughan wrote on Instagram Friday. “I’d like to thank EVERY healthcare worker, everyone helping to keep us safe. For our part, is critical we establish healthy habits and maintain an active lifestyle. We will feel better but also strengthen our immune system.”
He went on to explain that he is doing his part to help fans maintain a healthy exercise routine at home. “To make it easier, I’ve put together a 30-Day Social-Distancing Challenge which will be FREE and available to EVERYONE to access on our website,” he wrote.
He encouraged fans to share the program with their friends and families before adding a message of kindness: “Let’s be kind to each other, look out for the whole world and support each other the best way we can. Let’s also spread some positivity and great energy into the world and always remember as contagious as this virus has been, positivity is even more contagious!!! Sending much love and warm thoughts to you all.”
Heughan stars in the Day One video with an instructor directing him on how to move properly. The second and third videos don’t feature Heughan, but they do include knowledgeable trainers leading the sessions, which range from more intense training like cardio to relaxing exercises like yoga.
Fans can expect new videos by the end of each day (by 11:59 PST).
Heughan co-founded My Peak Challenge in 2015, which is typically a 12-month program that requires a fee, half of which is donated to charity. They have raised more than $4 million for charity. Though this program is free, Heughan will continue raising money later this year. He intends to run in the New York City Marathon in November for MPC.
The “Outlander” actor is known for being very athletic, but he recently revealed that he took his fitness to new levels for the action movie, “Bloodshot.” He had to balance his pre-movie training with filming “Outlander.” After a brief theatrical run before theaters shut down, “Bloodshot” will come to digital platforms on Tuesday.
