‘Outlast 2’ Dev Clarifies What Happened With The Australian Classification Board
Survival horror game “Outlast 2” is no longer banned in Australia and has already been given an R18+ rating by the country’s Classification Board. Developer Red Barrels has also released a statement clarifying what had happened to the game and its pending release worldwide.
Earlier this month, IBT reported that “Outlast 2” was banned in Australia after the Australian Classification Board refused to give the game a rating. At the time, it was believed that it was because of “implied sexual violence.”
But on March 21, “Outlast 2” was finally given an 18+ rating by the Classification Board and was no longer banned in the country. Developer Red Barrels may have resubmitted the game for re-classification, but the developer stated that it didn’t change anything within the game.
This has confused fans and it has led some to believe that Australia might be getting a different version of the game. “The original submission of Outlast 2 sent to the Australian Classification Branch contained the final game code and a video file for reference taken from an Alpha version of the game,” the developer said in a statement sent to IGN. “This video file should not have been sent along with the game code, as its content was not representative of the final game.”
Red Barrels then explained that on its second submission of “Outlast 2” to the Australian Classification Board, it sent out the same game code with the video file that reflects the content of the final game. This is how it was given the R18+ rating with warnings of “high impact horror themes, violence, blood, gore, and sex,” according to Gamespot.
The developer then clearly stated that all territories, including Australia, will get the same version of “Outlast 2” when it’s released worldwide on April 25, 2017. “There will be only one version of ‘Outlast 2’ available worldwide,” Red Barrels said.
