KEY POINTS

  • The products contain orange chicken instead of beef and broccoli
  • They may contain undeclared egg, which is an allergen
  • The recalled products were shipped to locations nationwide

A company is recalling over 100,000 pounds of frozen beef products because of misbranding and the presence of an undeclared allergen. The recall affects P.F. Chang's beef and broccoli products.

The problem with the recalled Conagra Brands products was that they were labeled as beef and broccoli but actually contained orange chicken, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The issue was discovered based on two customer complaints about the packs containing chicken-based products.

The products may contain egg, which was not mentioned on the label. As one of the most common food allergens, egg is among the eight allergens that should be listed on the ingredients label "in clear language," according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI).

Those who are allergic to egg, including children, may have reactions that can range from mild ones such as rashes to life-threatening anaphylaxis. In the case of the current recall, the company has not received confirmed reports of adverse reactions, according to the FSIS.

The recall affects "P.F. CHANG'S HOME MENU BEEF & BROCCOLI" in 22-oz. plastic packs that have the lot code "5006 2146 2012" and Best By date of May 21, 2023. They were produced on May 26 and 27, and have the establishment number "P115" above the nutrition facts section.

In total, some 119,581 pounds of frozen beef products are affected by the recall. The agency has shared photos of the product's packaging on its website.

"These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide and impacts only the P.F. Chang's Home Menu Beef & Broccoli product listed," noted the FSIS. "It does not include any product sold at P.F. Chang's restaurants."

Customers with an affected product should return it to the place of purchase or throw it away. Those with questions about the recall can contact Conagra Brands at (800) 280-0301 or through email at Consumer.Care@conagra.com.
