'Overwatch 2' Heroes: How To Play Soldier 76
KEY POINTS
- Soldier 76 is an effective damage dealer who is very easy to use
- His ultimate grants him legal aim hacks
- Soldier pairs very well with Ana and Kiriko
Soldier 76 is one of the simplest of DPS heroes in "Overwatch 2," but that doesn't mean he's any less effective at his job than the others. His lack of mechanical complexity and flashy moves is compensated for by his raw damage output, which becomes even more valuable at the hands of skilled players.
Some people jokingly refer to Soldier as the "Call of Duty" hero thanks to his run-and-gun playstyle. This isn't exactly a farfetched idea, but knowing how to use all of his abilities properly will decide if players find success with him or not.
Soldier 76 Playstyle
As a hitscan DPS hero, Soldier 76's job is to pour damage down range while finding opportunities to secure kills on enemy heroes. He doesn't have the one-shot potential of someone like Hanzo or the burst damage of Cassidy, but he is versatile enough to be used in many situations.
Soldier's Pulse Rifle can quickly burn down barriers and health bars alike. Its fast fire rate and decent damage-per-shot are complemented by its complete lack of accuracy bloom, though the recoil does kick quite hard.
Pelt enemies with rifle shots and finish them off with Helix Rockets to secure kills. These rockets have a surprising area of effect and they deal high damage, especially on direct hits. They also travel very quickly, making them hard to react against.
Soldier's utility skills are Sprint and Biotic Field. The former is great for general movement, while the latter is excellent for trading hits with or recuperating after a fight.
Tactical Visor automatically targets enemies within Soldier's line of sight. Use this when flanking or to eliminate pesky flyers like Pharah, Echo and Mercy. This also improves Pulse Rifle's reload speed.
Soldier 76 Tips and Tricks
Pulse Rifle's recoil is perfectly vertical. Try to aim for the upper chest and let the weapon kick up to the enemy's head to improve both DPS and aim consistency.
Do not underestimate Sprint. It is an excellent escape tool and great for repositioning as well. There are very few heroes in the game who can catch up to a sprinting Soldier.
Tactical Visor is best used when under the effects of Nano Boost or Kitsune Rush (or both). Additionally, it prioritizes targets that are in the middle of Soldier's screen, and its auto-aim also affects Helix Rockets.
