'Overwatch 2': How To Win More Games As A DPS Hero

Playing as a DPS hero in "Overwatch 2" involves more than just shooting at shields and burning down tanks, with more variables getting thrown into the equation depending on which hero a player decides to bring to the table.

While every character in this class has the same universal job of making health bars disappear, their overall effectiveness still depends on how players decide to play. Here are three important tips to remember when playing a DPS hero in "Overwatch 2."

Positioning and Off-Angles

Positioning isn't always about staying behind a tank or keeping away from enemy divers. Players who can get good shots on enemies can make all the difference in a fight.

This is typically called "off-angling," and it refers to engaging enemies from an advantageous and unexpected position. Players don't need to play Genji or any of the marksmen in the game to take full advantage of this tactic.

Playing off-angles won't just make dealing damage easier, but it will also take some pressure off of the rest of the team. Take note that this is often most effective when the other DPS player is acting as a frontliner along with the tank.

Adjust Target Priorities

Whenever possible, DPS players should go for the enemy Support heroes first since they're the ones keeping the enemy team alive. This is especially true when fighting against an Orisa or Zarya.

Another factor to consider is enemy awareness. Generally, players who are unaware of an opponent's presence tend to be more predictable with their movement. Every hero can take advantage of this, though flankers and snipers tend to get the most value from this tactic.

Other heroes like Sojourn and Soldier 76 can easily take an off-angle with their movement abilities and burn down an unaware enemy with their burst damage.

Control Space

Controlling space is often done by taking note of where the tanks are since it determines the location of the frontline. As a DPS player, aim to either reinforce the friendly frontline or cause the enemies to crumble by taking off-angles to get quick picks or sow chaos.

Players who are getting hit from both sides may buckle under pressure, which is why getting off-angles is so important. Controlling side areas also gives the friendly team an extra layer of protection against flank attacks as well.
