Packers: Rodgers Wants Adams, Jones To Have More Offense Opportunities To Improve
Aaron Rodgers wants more opportunities for Davante Adams and Aaron Jones as he looks for ways to improve the Green Bay Packers’ offense which has struggled at times during this season.
The Packers quarterback wants the receiver Adams and running back Jones to be more involved in handling the football during games. The duo have played key roles thus far this season, but Rodgers wants more.
According to Packers Wire, Adams is on pace for 110 catches and 16 touchdowns this season, but has not handled more than 10 targets in a game since Oct. 15. The report claimed it could be because opposing teams have identified him as one of the main threats and are now paying him more attention.
The Packers have moved the receiver around this season playing him in different positions including the backfield during the game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Rodgers is keen for the offense to create more favorable matchups.
The Packers quarterback also heaped praise on Adams and believes he should now be considered among the best receivers in the NFL.
“He doesn’t face a lot of one-on-ones, he’s getting help,” Rodgers said Tuesday. “So we gotta find ways to keep moving him around to different spots and getting him the ball.”
“He’s such a dynamic player,” the Packers quarterback added. “Davante deserves to be mentioned amongst the names people talk about as the best in the NFL.”
Jones, meanwhile, has only recently come into the spotlight and played a key role in the Packers’ 31-12 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. The running back handled a season-high 15 carries during the game, producing a career-high 145 yards rushing which included two scores.
Rodgers is well aware of Jones’ abilities and wants the team to give him more of the football during games. The running back leads the NFL in rushing yards per attempt (6.8) and over 46 percent of his carries have always resulted in a first down or a touchdown.
“He’s a great player. We just need to continue to give him more opportunities,” Rodgers said of Jones ahead of their Thursday game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Packers have to start winning games if they are to have a chance of making the playoffs. They are currently third in the NFC North standings behind leaders the Chicago Bears and second placed Minnesota Vikings.
Mike McCarthy’s team have a 4-4-1 record and they take on NFC West’s second placed team the Seahawks on Thursday, who have a 4-5-0 record. The Packers will be without four starters, namely, safety Kentrell Brice, outside linebacker Nick Perry, cornerback Kevin King, and wide receiver Randall Cobb, who have been ruled out of the game due to injury.
