PanGu Apple iOS 7.1.1 Jailbreak Adds Option To Install 25PP, Alleged Piracy App Store
The release of the PanGu jailbreak for Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS 7.1.1 sent iPhone 5S and iPad Air users scrambling to jailbreak their devices. Most users of the PanGu jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 noted that the software worked without any issues, but found that the tool had also installed an app linked to a Chinese app piracy store.
Steven De Franco, also known as iH8sn0w, confirmed the presence of 25PP, the alleged piracy app store in the PanGu jailbreak on Monday. De Franco also noted that the PanGu iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak does not contain any traces of spyware or malicious code.
Fortunately, for those who would rather not install any additional apps alongside the PanGu jailbreak, the 25PP app can be removed from the install process simply by unchecking the box present in the PanGu jailbreak window.
Those that have already ran the PanGu iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak on their device can still remove 25PP app store through the Cydia jailbreak app installer. But in doing so, it may break certain iOS jailbreak files.
Reddit’s /r/jailbreak users have suggested a couple of fixes for the problem, which involve reinstalling the “com.apple.mobile.installd” LaunchDaemon plist file.
While the inclusion of an app store allegedly tied to software piracy may be a dealbreaker for some jailbreak users, the option to prevent it from being installed appears to have quelled user backlash.
In December 2013, jailbreak users widely criticized the Evad3rs team, which bundled the TaiG Chinese app store, another app allegedly associated with piracy, with the Evasi0n 7 jailbreak. The Evad3rs team eventually removed the TaiG amid user complaints.
