South Korean movie “Parasite” has been named the Best Asian Film at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards. With this award, the movie has become the most acclaimed movie of 2019.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie helmed by Bong Joon Ho is creating all the right buzz before the Academy Awards. The movie has won over 40 international awards till now and is poised to win even more. The satirical comedy won the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and also became the first Korean movie to get nominations at the Golden Globes.

The acclaimed movie was awarded Best Foreign-Language Film by New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) while it was given a Special Award by the American Film Institute (AFI).

But the awards for all the main categories are still to be given by the AACTA.

At the nominations front, Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” dominated the awards with six nominations, including Best Picture. Scorsese has been nominated in the Best Director category which also includes names like Quentin Tarantino, Todd Phillips, Sam Mendes and Joon Ho.

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci received acting nods for their stellar work in the epic crime drama.

Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” came second with five noms, including Best Picture and Best Director. Brad Pitt was included in the list of actors competing for Best Supporting Actor and will battle it out against the likes of John Lithgow and Song Kang-Ho.

Joaquin Phoenix is in the race to win the Best Actor award for his portrayal of the diabolical clown in the movie “Joker.” The movie has been nominated for four awards.

On the other hand, Margot Robbie has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for two of her movies, “Bombshell” and “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” Meanwhile, Saoirse Ronan and Renee Zellweger are included in the group of actresses competing for the Best Actress trophy.
