The parents of a young boy from Virginia have been arrested after the child's body was discovered from the family's freezer, almost two years after his death, police said.

The parents, Kassceen Weaver, 49, and Dina D. Weaver, 48, of Chesterfield County were charged with conspiring to conceal the body and with failing to render medical aid to the child.

Based on a tip-off, the investigators searched the couple's home on May 4 and discovered the remains of a child stored in the freezer inside the garage of the house. The child was believed to be under the age of 5 and was later identified as the couple's son, Eliel Weaver, Chester county police said.

A DNA test has indicated that Dina was Eliel’s mother but the police have not said if Kassceen was the child’s biological father. However, both were considered the boy’s custodial parents, WTVR reported.

The court documents indicated that the child died sometime between Jan. 1, 2016, and Dec. 31, 2018. Investigators have not determined the exact cause of Eliel's death and describe it as a "unique death investigation," Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

“There were so many unknowns and so many things that had to be done differently than a normal death investigation,” Maj. Michael Louth, commander of the department’s criminal investigations bureau, said Wednesday.

According to a criminal complaint, Dina's brother called the police on May 4, 2021, to report that his sister suffered from domestic violence from Kassceen. He told the police that Dina was not allowed to contact anyone and she reportedly called him up while she was at work. Dina reportedly told her brother that Kassceen would tie her up with an electrical cord and burn her with a curling iron.

On May 3, 2021, Dina reportedly confessed to her brother that Kassceen had wrapped up the body of her "deceased" child and stored him in the freezer almost two years ago. Dina said that "police were not called for [the boy’s] death due to his body having bruising,” the complaint says.

Investigators who searched at the couple's residence found extensive written documents that "detailed history of grooming and manipulative behavior from Kassceen, detailing how and what Dina was allowed to do."

After the discovery of the child's body, investigators sought help from forensic anthropologists to determine a way to thaw the frozen remains, while retaining the evidence. "This was a very slow process ... and took a long time to do it properly,” Louth said.

Another child aged 10 who also lived in the couple's home is currently placed into foster care, court documents reveal.

Kassceen also faces additional charges for physically concealing the body. The couple is scheduled to appear in Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Aug. 5.
