Some parents will have to pay up to $50 more in weekly child care service if the proposed new standards in family day care is approved and implemented.

A child care operator in Clarence town, NSW made the warning Thursday. The operator, who preferred to be anonymous, said the proposed new standards will increase child carers' cost and this will be passed on to parents. Thus the higher child care bill.

One of the recommendations in the new standards is the reduction in the number of children that one carer has to handle from five to four.

The NSW Family Day Care Association is now campaigning to change some of the recommendations arising from the Council of Australian Governments meeting early this year. The association, however, declined to reveal details of the campaign until after the national elections.
