Paris Jackson Doesn't Want To 'Label' Her Sexuality: 'It Doesn't Feel Right'
KEY POINTS
- Paris Jackson has revealed that there is "no label" that can fit her sexuality
- Jackson also shared that she can't be called a "bisexual" because she has dated more than just men and women
- Michael Jackson’s daughter also encouraged everyone to take care of their mental health amid the coronavirus pandemic
Paris Jackson does not feel the need to put a label on her sexuality because there is “no label” that accurately describes her sexual orientation.
Speaking in an interview with People, the 22-year-old model-turned-actress said that putting a label on everything is a way for humans to “compartmentalize” the world and she is glad that the world is getting past the “need for labels.”
“I don't feel like there is a label for my sexuality that fits. It doesn't feel right. Labels in general, not just for sexuality but for everything, I think, are just ways for humans to make sense of the world, to be able to compartmentalize. We are getting past the need for labels. It's beautiful,” Jackson told the publication.
Michael Jackson’s daughter also explained that she does not consider herself a “bisexual” because she has dated more than just men and women.
“I wouldn't consider myself bisexual because I've dated more than just men and women. It has nothing to do with what's in your pants. It has nothing to do with what your XY chromosome makeup is, it's literally just what are you like as a person,” People quoted Jackson, as saying.
The “Gringo” star also opened up about how she is managing to take care of her mental health amid the coronavirus pandemic. She encouraged everyone to research on how they can cope with their own mental health issues. For her, recreational activities like painting and playing guitar are the best ways to deal with problems like depression and anxiety. She also does meditation to keep herself calm.
“Everyone has different ways of coping with depression and anxiety. I encourage anyone going through it to research as much as they can to find what fits them best. For me, I just try to practice meditation and DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), I try to surround myself with people, places and things that feed my soul and make me happy,” Jackson said during the interview.
Last month, Jackson revealed that she tried to kill herself multiple times following the death of her father. She also confessed that she still suffers from depression. Jackson said self-harm was a means to distract herself from the emotional pain and helped her deal with her need for control.
Meanwhile, Jackson’s Facebook Watch show “Unfiltered: Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn” will have its season finale on Aug. 11.
