Passenger Threatened To Kill Everyone On Board, Flight Diverted To North Carolina
Frontier Airlines diverted a flight to Raleigh-Durham international on Wednesday night after a passenger began threatening to kill everyone on board the plane.
According to ABC 11 in Raleigh, N.C., Flight 1335, took off from New York LaGuardia and was on the way to Orlando when mid-flight a passenger caused a disturbance. According to reports, a man began loudly complaining, claiming that the woman in the seat behind him was trying to steal his DNA.
As the complaining wore on, the man became more agitated, including making threats against people’s lives, including a baby on board. He then said that he would kill everyone on board. The passenger's name has not yet been released to the public.
It was unclear if anyone was injured during the altercation or if the man was intoxicated at the time of the incident. A Twitter user posted a video allegedly showing the incident in progress.
Six passengers on the flight had to restrain the man as the plane landed in North Carolina before being met by law enforcement, fire rescue, and Emergency Medical Services. They then escorted the man off the plane after it made an emergency landing.
CNN reports that Frontier Airlines Flight 1335 took off shortly before 6 p.m. EST from New York City and was scheduled to land by 9:11 pm ET in Orlando. The flight emergency landed in North Carolina because of the diversion around 8:15 p.m., then continued to Orlando around 9:40 p.m. before landing at 11:10 p.m.
Frontier Airlines recently announced a merger with Spirit that would make it the fifth largest airline in the U.S. There is no name for the new airline just yet, but the two airlines claimed it will be competitive with low costs that would “shake up” the dominance of larger rivals.
