Patrick Beverly Reportedly Gloated To LeBron James After Clippers Snagged Leonard-George Duo
The Los Angeles Clippers have all the reason to be elated after they nabbed two big names in NBA free agency. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George will be suiting up for the Clips this 2019-20 season, and everybody in the organization is pumped up. That includes Patrick Beverly.
It appears the 31-year-old guard was pretty much in the loop last summer. He was monitoring free agent developments and wanted his team to land more stars for next season. And while most were focused on Leonard, the Paul George trade was the real stunner. Hence, one can only imagine how the defensive guard felt when everything was made official.
Brian Windhorst revealed an interesting story about Beverly and some players who were reportedly at a Las Vegas restaurant during the Summer League. Among the players who were there were George and LeBron James. When word broke out that the Clips landed Leonard, Beverly was unsurprisingly elated.
"The story that I heard was that Patrick was making a beeline down the hallway of private rooms — sticking his head into all the rooms gloating about the Clippers’ giant haul — including into LeBron’s room," Windhorst quoted his source during the podcast.
As most know, the Lakers were also trying to land Leonard last summer. But the two-time NBA champion opted to join the Clippers instead - a team that had been long rumored as the logical Los Angeles-based team he would be joining.
As mentioned in a previous post, the Clippers and the Lakers have greatly improved and both are among the heavy favorites to rule the Western Conference. However, it remains that Beverly and the rest of the crew need to step up and do their part if the Clips are to make waves this 2019-20 season.
Beverly may have to further back his gloating once he meets James and the Lakers on the basketball court. On paper, the Clippers have a formidable crew - same with the Lakers. The fact remains however that both teams need to deal with other Western Conference powers. The list includes the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, and the Utah Jazz.
