World figure skating champion Patrick Chan was named winner of the Lionel Conacher Award as Canadian male athlete of the year on Wednesday.

Chan, who will turn 21 on New Year's Eve, received 102 points in voting conducted by Canadian sports editors and broadcasters. He easily beat off tennis player Milos Raonic (70) and UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (66).

It is the second major honor this month for Chan, who was also the winner of the Lou Marsh Trophy presented annually to Canada's s top male or female athlete, professional or amateur.

Chan becomes the third figure skater to put his name on the Lionel Conacher Award joining former world champions Kurt Browning (1990, 1991) and Elvis Stojko (1994).

The figure skater went undefeated throughout 2011, winning his fourth straight Canadian title and the world championships in Russia by setting record marks in the short program, free program and overall score.

He also finished top of the podium in the two Grand Prix figure skating events he entered and defended his crown at the Grand Prix Final.
