Paul Mescal's Sister Reveals His Oscar Nomination Came Amid Mother's Chemotherapy Prep
Irish actor Paul Mescal received his first Oscar nomination and his sister, singer Nell Mescal revealed that the nomination came amid their mother's chemotherapy.
"My mum got a haircut today in prep for her chemotherapy and then paul got nominated for an oscar," Nell tweeted Tuesday after the 95th Academy Awards nomination announcement. "Life is so crazy."
Following the tweet, several celebrities took to the comments section to share their best wishes. Television producer Maïa Dunphy wrote, "Thinking of your Mum. This must be a great boost for her."
"The ups and downs of life colliding. Congratulations proud sister," Senator Fiona OLoughlin commented. "Hope your Mums treatment goes well."
After the tweet received more than 35,000 likes and 2.7 million views, the 19-year-old singer requested everyone to stop following her on Twitter, noting that she doesn't use this platform to promote her music.
"Ok guys stop following my Twitter," she tweeted on the same day. "This is the app where i talk about gilmore girls and the walking dead and pretend i am not a singer songwriter with songs to promote."
Nell also shared a screenshot of her family members on a video call, where everyone celebrated the nomination news. The screenshot featured the actor, Nell, their mother, father, and brother named Donnacha.
Paul got nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for his performance in the movie, "Aftersun." The 26-year-old actor has been nominated alongside Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser and Bill Nighy.
"This is truly a special moment for everyone involved in Aftersun," Paul said in a statement to ETOnline regarding the nomination. "To be recognized by the Academy is such an insane honor and I'm so utterly grateful. I want to dedicate this nomination to my two friends Charlotte and Frankie who I love dearly! This is bananas, thank you!"
The 2023 Oscars nominations were announced Tuesday, where movies like "Everything Everywhere All at Once," "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "The Banshees of Inisherin" received the highest number of nominations.
