Moreover, Pogba is anyway being linked with a move away from the Manchester club, with his contract expiring at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

"I think it’s got to the point now where it’s probably better if he moves on. If Paul is honest with himself, he's probably not had the impact he would have liked since he returned. I watch him play for France and he’s a completely different player. His ability, his vision, control of the game is there in every game for France," Rooney told Sky Sports.

Pogba himself recently admitted that he is not satisfied with his last years at Manchester United.

"We have to be honest, I am not satisfied over the last 5 years, but not at all. This year, it’s dead, we will win nothing again. Whether it is with Manchester or in another club, I want to win trophies," Pogba said.

Pogba, who is into his sixth season at Manchester United, has also struggled with many injuries over the last few years. He has missed over 80 games since his second debut with the Red Devils, according to Transfermarkt.

Even in the underway campaign, Pogba started off so well, assisting seven goals in Manchester United's opening four Premier League matches. But the French midfielder, later on, injured himself during an international break and ended up missing 14 games for his club.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s former No. 10, Rooney, went on to say that the Red Devils need to let go of a few more players as well, including his ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

"It hasn’t quite worked for him at Manchester United and I think there are a few players they need to let go," added Rooney.

The current Derby County manager insisted that if the Old Trafford side is looking to build a team for the future, they have to back their youngsters, including Jesse Lingard.

When the Sky Sports panel asked Rooney if signing Ronaldo has worked for the Manchester club, the former Red Devil replied, "You’d have to say no at the minute. He’s scored goals, important goals in the Champions League earlier on this season, and the hat-trick against Tottenham. But I think if you’re looking to the future of the club you have to go with younger-, hungry players to do their best to lift Manchester United over these two to three years."

Manchester United are set to end without a trophy for the fifth season in a row.
